Tempe, Ariz. -- Matty Moss struck out six batters and earned her second complete-game win of the season to lead No. 11/12 Tennessee to a 6-2 victory over Western Michigan on Friday at the Kajikawa Classic.
The Lady Vols (3-0) shot out of the gate with four runs in the first inning, started by a leadoff home run to center field by Aubrey Leach. After Meghan Gregg and Chelsea Seggern both reached on a walk and fielding error, Scarlet McSwain stepped in and hit her second home run of the tournament to give UT a commanding early lead.
The Broncos got on the board in the top of the third inning, as Kaylen Glenfield delivered a solo home run with two outs to trim the deficit to three. Tennessee would answer right back in the bottom half, however, as a McSwain hit a single to center field on a 3-1 pitch allowed Sheridan Allen to score on an error and make it 5-1.
Western Michigan made it a three-run game again in the fifth inning with a rally that started with Sophia Ehlers doubling to left field. Mackenzie Swinehart drilled a single with two outs that brought home Ehlers and gave the Broncos life again.
In the sixth inning, UT was able to reclaim the four-run advantage with a Chelsea Seggern single that scored Leach from second.
