Tryouts for 2019-20 Teams Now Open for Registration

The search for Tennessee Spirit's 2019-2020 cheer, dance, and mascot teams will soon bring hundreds of hopeful incoming students to Rocky Top.
After one of the most successful showings at 2019 UCA/UDA College Nationals for the Tennessee Spirit program, on top of unprecedented success for the Big Orange basketball program and optimism surrounding Vol Football, interest in Tennessee's three spirit teams is at an all time high.
Tryouts for all three teams will be held April 12-14 and are open to anyone currently enrolled at the University of Tennessee or anyone who has been accepted for Fall 2019Â admission as an incoming freshman or transfer student. Online registration is required to participate and must be completed by April 10. Visit TennesseeSpiritCamps.com to register online.
Cheer tryouts will be held on the UT campus while dance tryouts will be held at an off campus dance studio. Both cheer and dance tryouts begin Friday, April 12 at 3pm. Mascot tryouts will be held on the UT campus on Sunday, April 14.Â
The following skills will be evaluated at cheer tryouts:
- Standing back tuck
- Back handspring back tuck
- Specialty standing pass (i.e. standing full, one to full, two to full)
- Running tumbling (highly recommended to have a full)
- Optional specialty pass (i.e. whips, arabian, full to full)
- Gameday Stunts (chair, extension, lib, hands walk back to shoulder, and heel stretch with twisting dismount)
- Two part stunt combination
- Motion drill
- Sideline/Fight Song
The following skills will be evaluated at dance tryouts:
- Quadruple pirouette
- Aerial (preferably both sides)
- Advanced turns (floats, changing spot)
- Advanced jumps (stationary, traveling, various switch)
- Toe touch
- Kip ups
- Head springs
- Tumbling pass (not required but preferred)
