Lady Vols drop ITA Regional Doubles Title Match

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee women's tennis duo of No. 17 Catherine Aulia and Leyla Britez Risso competed in the ITA Ohio Valley Regional doubles title match Tuesday, falling in three sets to No. 12 Mohr/Webster of Vanderbilt.
UT's tandem of seniors battled to a 4-4 score in the first set, before stringing together two crucial game points to win set one, 6-4. Vanderbilt's duo reclaimed momentum, taking an early lead in the second and hanging on to win 6-4 and even the match at a set apiece.
In a back-and-forth tiebreak third set, the Lady Vol pairing fought valiantly and even led at a 9-8 match point. Ultimately, the Commodores forced a few difficult returns, and won the tiebreak set by a 12-10 final score.
The Lady Vols, over the course of five days of competition at the ITA Regionals, went 25-10 across singles and doubles play. All seven singles entries advanced to the main draw round of 32, and three advanced to the quarterfinal round. Two Lady Vol duos advanced to the doubles semifinal, with one reaching the final.
Britez Risso shined during regional play, reaching the doubles final and singles semifinals.
