KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – University of Tennessee women's tennis head coach Alison Ojeda has been named as a coach of team USA for the Master'U BNP Paribas Championships, set to take place in Reims, France from Dec. 5 through Dec. 7.
"The World Event of University Tennis," Master'U brings together the top collegiate talent in the world to compete for their home country. Eight nations – Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Switzerland, and the United States – will compete against one another in a team format.
"When I was asked to coach our team, I felt instant excitement," Ojeda said. "My answer was yes well before I knew any of the details.
"To be able to compete for your country, in the sport you love, while doing it with other like-hearted athletes is just an honor. I look forward to coaching some of our nation's best players and representing USTA in the best way possible."
The co-ed squad under her tutelage features some of the top American athletes in the collegiate system, including Reese Brantmeier (North Carolina, ITA No. 3 women's singles), Valerie Glozman (Stanford, ITA No. 6 women's singles, 1-seed in NCAA Individual singles tournament) and Aidan Kim (Ohio State, No. 4 ITA men's singles). Ojeda will coach alongside Andrew Rueb, Harvard's head men's tennis coach. This is Rueb's second year as a coach for the U.S. at the event.
The matches will consist of two women's singles matches, two men's singles matches, one women's doubles match, one men's doubles match, and one mixed doubles match.
The U.S. has won the Master'U Championship a total of 12 times, including each of the last five.
