KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The No. 10 Tennessee volleyball team earned its 13th sweep of the season with a win over Mississippi State (25-20, 25-14, 29-27) on Friday night at Food City Center.
The victory marks head coach Eve Rackham Watt's 100th home win and 100th Southeastern Conference win with the Lady Vols.
The Lady Vols (17-5, 8-4 SEC) recorded 55 kills while hitting .354 on the night. UT also finished with 44 assists, 50 digs, and two aces in the three-set win, as well as seven blocks at the net.
Kennedi Rogers led the way offensively for Tennessee, posting 19 kills while hitting for .341. Jalyn Stout also aided in the offensive performance, recording 10 kills and a team-high 15 digs for her fifth double-double of the season and 76th of her career. Caroline Kerr filled up the stat sheet with 34 assists, eight digs, four kills and a block.
Freshman Anni Tang dominated the net, leading the team with five blocks and adding a career-high eight kills. Maggie Dostic played a big role in the back row defensively, recording 12 digs for her seventh match of the campaign with double-digit digs.
Mississippi State (17-6, 7-5 SEC) finished the match with 39 kills on .223 hitting, adding 52 digs and five blocks.
Tennessee drew first blood in the match on a Stout kill, but Mississippi State fought back to create a tight set as the two teams tied eight times within the first 10 points. The set remained tense as Tennessee's biggest lead only stretched to three points by a score of 18-15, until finally pulling away to close out the first set 25-20 on a soft tip into space to earn the final kill by Maggie Dostic.
After trading leads early in the second frame, the Lady Vols went on a 6-1 run to take control of the set. Tennessee continued to extend its lead throughout the second, with a kill from Stout to secure the two-set lead. Tang led the period offensively with five kills and a block. As a team, Tennessee had 18 kills in the second stanza, on a robust .471 hitting percentage.
It was a similar start in the third set, as neither team was able to take a clear advantage. UT was unable to create distance between itself and Mississippi State, with neither team leading by more than two points throughout the set. The close set continued into bonus ball with multiple match points. Tied at 27-all, consecutive kills by Rogers and Sutton were the dagger for the Lady Vols to claim the sweep. Rogers capped her strong performance offensively with 11 kills on .500 hitting.
Up next, the Lady Vols closes out its final homestand of the regular season as they welcome Alabama to Food City Center. First serve is slated for 2 p.m. ET and the match will be streamed on SEC Network+.
