BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Conference revealed on Wednesday morning that Lady Vol Kyra Van Kan has won the conference's golfer of the week award and Lady Vol Madison Messimer has won the conference's freshman of the week award.
Van Kan earned the first individual win of her career with a dominant performance at last week's Paradise Invitational, hosted by Florida Atlantic at Osprey Point Golf Course in Boca Raton, Florida.
The Lady Vols' sophomore ended the tournament at 10-under-par after posting three consecutive rounds of par or better, finishing atop the field of 90 golfers.
Van Kan's 54-hole score of 10-under-par matched the third best in program history. Additionally, her second-round score of 7-under-par tied the fifth-best single-round score in program history.
With a final tally of 17 birdies to lead the field, and just four bogeys, Van Kan helped Tennessee to its second team victory of the season atop a field of 16 teams.
Messimer earned a runner-up finish, the best of her young career, among a 90 golfer field at last week's Paradise Invitational.
The only individual golfer the freshman finished behind was teammate Van Kan, who claimed the individual title.
Messimer posted a final tally of 6-under-par, her best 54-hole score of the season, thanks to three consecutive rounds of par or better.
With her fourth top-ten finish of the season, Messimer helped the Lady Vols claim the team championship at the Paradise Invitational, Tennessee's second win of the season.
The Lady Vols return to action on Sunday, as the team is back in Florida to compete in the Moon Golf Invitational, set for Feb. 15-17 at Suntree Country Club.
