Herrington Leads #18/20 Vols in Second Round of Cabo Collegiate

LOS CABOS, Mexico – The No. 18/20 Tennessee men's golf team continued its second tournament of the spring on Monday at the Cabo Collegiate, with round two contested at Twin Dolphin Golf Club.
The Volunteers improved on their round one performance by four strokes, firing a 4-under-par 280 in Monday's second round. At 4-under-par overall, Tennessee moves to sixth place among the 15 teams competing with 18 holes to play.
No. 9 Arkansas used a strong 14-under-par performance on Monday to take the lead in Cabo, sitting at 17-under-par overall. No. 11 Oklahoma State was not far behind with a 10-under-par round to sit three strokes back of the Razorbacks at 14-under-par. No. 7 Arizona State rounds out the top three, improving to 11-under-par with an 8-under-par performance in round two.
Jackson Herrington led the Vols on Monday with the team's lowest individual round of the week thus far. The sophomore carded a 4-under-par 67, fueled by birdies on three of his final four holes and six birdies on the day. Herrington soared 16 spots up the individual standings during round two, now tied for ninth place at 4-under-par.
Competing outside of the team lineup as an individual this week, Chase Kyes continues to impress for the Vols. The freshman recorded his second consecutive 2-under-par round of 69 on Monday, which included three consecutive birdies on holes seven through nine en route to birdies on four of his final seven holes. Improving to 4-under-par overall, Kyes is tied with Herrington in ninth place among the 80 golfers competing.
Josh Hill was the third golfer in red figures for Tennessee on Monday. The senior played a clean round, tallying three birdies to just one bogey for a 2-under-par 69. The performance helped Hill climb 14 places up the individual standings as he is tied for 19th place at 1-under-par, rounding out three Vols in the top 20.
Lance Simpson bounced back from a 3-over-par 74 in round one, his first round of the season that did not count toward the team total, with an even-par 71. With three birdies on the day, Simpson improves to a tie for 42nd place at 3-over-par overall.
The final countable score of round two was posted by Luke Smith, who concluded the day with a 2-over-par 73. The freshman carded two birdies, but a double bogey on hole No. 15 proved costly. At 3-over-par, Smith is tied with Simpson for 42nd place entering Tuesday's final round.
The Cabo Collegiate will conclude with round three on Tuesday, which will be a shotgun start at 10:30 a.m. EST.
