ATHENS, Ga. -- Tennessee Diving's Desharne Bent-Ashmeil and Lynae Shorter have punched their tickets to the 2026 NCAA Championships, qualifying in the 1-meter to cap off the first day of the Zone B Diving Championships.
Â
In order to qualify in the event, both divers had to finish in the top 11 after 12 dives between prelims and finals. Bent-Ashmeil was one of just two freshmen to qualify, finishing fourth overall with a combined score of 625.45. Shorter finished close behind in sixth place with a score of 572.85, securing her second trip to the NCAA Championships after making it her freshman campaign in 2024.
Â
Bent-Ashmeil put up a consistent performance in both prelims and finals. The London, England native finished the prelims with a score of 312.70 and followed it up with a score of 312.75 in the finals. Shorter improved on her score from prelims to finals, putting up a score of 290.35 to lock-in her spot at NCAAs after scoring 282.50 in prelims.
Â
Freshman Emma Rhines also moved on to finals in the women's 1-meter but came up just short of qualifying for NCAAs with a 14th place finish.
Â
With Bent-Ashmeil and Shorter qualifying for NCAAs in the 1-meter, both will now only need to finish in the top 12 to earn their spot in the 3-meter. Rhines will have two more opportunities to earn her trip to NCAAs, competing in the 3-meter and platform over the next two days.
