BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - After sweeping every race to win the Rocky Top Invite for the second year in a row, two Tennessee rowers earned weekly honors from the Southeastern Conference, as announced by the league office on Friday afternoon. Senior Alex Pidgeon was named the SEC Rower of the Week, while Frida Werner Foldager took Freshman of the Week honors.Â
Both Lady Vols were members of the first varsity eight boat that won all three of its races at the Rocky Top Invite. The duo helped lead the crew to wins over four ranked teams over the weekend, culminating in a finals win that helped secure the team trophy at the Rocky Top Invite.
Pidgeon continues a strong career after helping lead the 1V8+ for the last two seasons. The 1V8+ crew closed finals with a time of 6:24.680 to cross the line first, nearly 13 seconds ahead of second place Alabama who finished with a time of 6:37.445. The 1V8 boat won every race it competed in at the Rocky Top Invite. This marks Pidgeon's second SEC Rower of the Week honor in her career, and her fifth conference weekly award all-time

The crew got the weekend started with a win in its opening heat with a time of 6:18.411, defeating the nearest competitor by over ten seconds. The fast weekend for the Big Orange continued in the semifinals as they closed the contest with a 6:20.653.
It was another dominating performance for the 1V8, finishing over 12 seconds over second place Duke. Werner Foldager continued to dp her part for the crew, as it finished the Rocky Top Invite with a finals win to help get Tennessee the event's trophy. Werner Foldager was the lone freshman on the first varsity eight boat, moving up after featuring for the 2V8+ in the opening season competition against Stanford.
