Vols Drop SEC Championship First Round Result To #25 Rebels, 4-0
April 15, 2026 | Men's Tennis
COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Tennessee men's tennis fell to No. 25 Ole Miss, 4-0, in the first round of the SEC Championship Wednesday afternoon at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
Doubles started out in the favor of Ole Miss, with the Rebels leading on two of three courts after the first break. The Vols, however, found some momentum on court one after gaining a lead in the first break. The Tennessee partnership of Alejandro Moreno and Piotr Siekanowicz struck first for the Big Orange, winning the last two games to win their match, 6-3, over the Rebs' No. 26 nationally-ranked duo of Isac Stromberg and Kai Milburn.
Ole Miss, however, fought back with a 6-4 triumph at No. 3 to make the court two contest the decisive battle for the doubles point.
Two was the closest affair of the doubles portion, with both duos trading points up until the score was knotted at 5-5. Then, UT's tandem of Jose Garcia and Shion Itsusaki found a way to break through, forcing the Rebels to have to answer to a 6-5 match point. Ole Miss did just that, forcing a tiebreak game and claiming the doubles point with a 7-4 tiebreak result to take a lead into singles play.
The Rebels built off their doubles victory by claiming five of the first six sets. Ethan Muza was the bright spot for the Vols, though, in the first stanza. The senior came back from being down, 3-0, to tie the first set at 4-4. Muza finished the opening-set comeback with a 6-4 outcome.
Court five was the first match to finish, with the Rebels adding to their lead with a 6-1, 6-4 decision from Noah Schlagenhauf over Shion Itsusaki.
Alejandro Moreno seemed to feed off the comeback from the court beside him, pushing the court-two competition to need an extra set with a 6-2 triumph.
Despite the Moreno answer, Ole Miss closed out the win out with victories on courts six (6-3, 6-4) and one (6-4, 6-4), respectively.
With the loss, Tennessee came up short on qualifying for a spot in the NCAA Tournament and saw its 2025-26 season come to a close.
