INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Three University of Tennessee student-athletes have been selected as NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipients, the organization announced last week. UT's honorees include Martin Espernberger and Nick Stone from men's swimming & diving and Lauren Jarrett from women's track & field.
Announced on April 22, the NCAA awarded $10,000 to 42 exceptional student-athletes as part of its Postgraduate Scholarship program. These student-athletes, representing winter sports across all three NCAA divisions, have demonstrated outstanding academic achievements, athletic excellence and leadership within their communities.
Established in 1964, the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship program promotes and encourages graduate education by recognizing the Association's most accomplished student-athletes. The program evaluates candidates on their athletic and academic achievements, campus involvement, community service and leadership. An equitable selection process ensures that all nominees, regardless of sport, division, gender or race, are considered fairly.
Stone is a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection pursuing a degree in sport management. The Midland, Texas, native is also a member of Tennessee's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, serving as co-president. Stone was one of two Tennessee swimmers named to the SEC Community Service Team in February, recognizing athletes who give back through outstanding service efforts.
The senior diver posted a pair of top-10 finishes at the SEC Championships, including a fifth-place showing in the platform event. He garnered multiple accolades in his first season on Rocky Top, including being named the 2023 SEC Freshman Diver of the Year after scoring in all three diving events. Stone also owns a top-10 mark in program history, with his platform score of 397.90 ranking seventh all-time.
Espernberger is a two-time CSC Academic All-American, earning honors in 2024 and 2025. In 2024, he was also named the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's swimming and diving. The Linz, Austria, native is majoring in electrical engineering.
The senior swimmer has won three medals in the 200 fly at the SEC Championships, including gold in 2024. He has also represented Austria on the international stage, highlighted by his appearance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he finished sixth in the 200 fly.
Espernberger is a three-time All-America honoree, including First Team distinction after placing fifth in the 200 fly at the 2025 NCAA Championships. He holds two top-10 times in program history, including the school record in the 200 fly (1:39.34), and ranks seventh all-time in the 100 fly (45.43).
Jarrett joined the Lady Vol track & field program in the fall of 2025 following a standout three-year career at Wisconsin-La Crosse. From 2023–25, she captured nine individual/relay NCAA Division III national titles, earned 14 All-America honors and set Division III all-time records in the 60-meter (7.29) and 100-meter (11.23).
In her first season on Rocky Top, Jarrett has surpassed both marks with times of 7.27 and 11.06 in the 60- and 100-meter dash, respectively. Her 100-meter performance ranks third in program history and 12th nationally during the 2026 outdoor season.
Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in kinesiology, Jarrett is a two-time CSC Academic All-American, earning second team honors in 2024 and first team recognition in 2025.
