OAK RIDGE, Tenn. -- The #5 Tennessee rowing team finished day one of the Rocky Top Invite on Friday at Melton Hill Lake. The Lady Vols took all of their heat races on the afternoon to set up Saturday morning's semifinals.

The first varsity eight boat took the win in its heat, finishing with a time of 6:18.411, finishing over ten seconds ahead of second place Alabama. Rounding out the heat was the trio of Iowa, Minnesota, and USC.

The Big Orange's 2V8+ crew logged a time of 6:31.336, taking its heat in the contest. Placing second in the 2V8 was Alabama, finishing with a time of 6:36.246. USC crossed the line next to claim third, followed by Minnesota and Iowa.

In the first varsity four heat, the Lady clocked a time of 7:16.377 to take the win, nearly 13 seconds ahead of Alabama in second. Iowa took third place in the heat with a time of 7:29.672, followed by Minnesota and USC to close the race.

The 2V4+ race saw Tennessee post a strong time of 7:19.915, dominating the field finishing almost 13 seconds ahead of the nearest boat, with the second place boat from the Crimson Tide clocking a 7:32.255

In the 3V4 heat, both the 3V4 and 4V4 boats for the Lady Vols took first and second. The 3V4 crew finished first with a time of 7:14.809, with the 4V4 clocking a 7:19.646. Tennessee's 5V4 and 6V4 followed suit in their heat of the 3V4, with both teams crossing the finish line in first and second respectively.

UT took both heats in the 3V8 races. The 3V8+ boat for the Lady Vols was the clear winner in its heat, capping a strong race with a time of 6:36.475, followed by second place Alabama with a 6:49.620. The 4V8 had its own dominating performance in its heat, crossing the finish line with a time of 6:37.449, finishing over 22 seconds ahead of the nearest competitor in UCLA.

Tennessee is back out on Saturday, with semifinals and finals taking place in the Rocky Top Invite. Semifinals are slated to begin at 8 a.m., while finals will begin at 11:54 a.m.
