June 30, 2026 | Baseball
Another former Tennessee pitcher has made his way to The Show.
VFL Garrett Stallings is slated to make his Major League debut after being called up by the Milwaukee Brewers and is likely to pitch in Tuesday night's home game against the Cincinnati Reds.
Stallings will be the second former Vol to make his MLB debut this season, joining fellow right-handed pitcher Chad Dallas, who earned a victory for the Toronto Blue Jays in his first big league appearance on June 4.
Stallings is the 12th Tennessee player since 2020 to make it to Majors, joining Garrett Crochet (2020), Ben Joyce (2023), Andre Lipcius (2023), Trey Lipscomb (2024), Jordan Beck (2024), Seth Halvorsen (2024), Chase Dollander (2025), Blade Tidwell (2025), Christian Moore (2025), Drew Gilbert (2025) and Dallas (2026). The Virginia native is the 54th player in program history to make it to The Show.
After being selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the fifth round of the 2019 MLB Draft, Stallings has meticulously worked his way through the minor league systems of the Angels, Baltimore Orioles and Brewers, having made 151 appearances, including 96 starts, over six minor league seasons. Stallings has a 36-31 career record and has pitched 594.0 innings with a 4.86 ERA and 1.34 WHIP during his professional career.
Stallings has made 16 appearances and 12 starts this year for Milwaukee's Triple-A affiliate the Nashville Sounds, posting a 3-3 record, a 3.45 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP in 62.2 innings of work.
Stallings spent three seasons in Knoxville (2017-19) and played a key role in helping the Vols end a 13-year NCAA Tournament draught in 2019, serving as the ace of UT's pitching staff while earning SEC All-Defensive Team and SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year recognition as a junior.
During his three years on Rocky Top, Stallings appeared in 52 games with 35 starts and totaled 16 victories to go along with a 3.76 ERA and 182 strikeouts over 251.1 innings pitched.
