Williams & Dostic Combine for 22 Kills in Saturday Sweep over Morehead State

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The No. 22 Tennessee volleyball team returned to the court for its first of two matches on Saturday, securing its second win of the season with a sweep (25-16, 25-18, 25-12) over Morehead State at Food City Center.
Morgan Williams and Maggie Dostic led the Lady Vols (2-0) attack with 12 and 10 kills apiece. Jalyn Stout added a strong offensive afternoon of her own, adding seven kills. Caroline Kerr and Mallory Matheny supported the Tennessee offense, finishing with 21 and 11 assists, respectively.
Tennessee recorded 35 digs and seven blocks in the winning effort. Raegan Burns led the defensive effort with 11 digs, while a trio of Lady Vols tied for a team-high three blocks. The Eagles (1-1) attack was held in check throughout the entire match, finishing with just 21 kills on a .045 hitting percentage.
Tennessee got started early in the first. A pair of runs put the Big Orange in full control as it took the early 1-0 set advantage. Williams contributed early to the team's success, leading the way with six kills. Dostic finished closely behind with four kills of her own to start the match. Tennessee assisted 16 of its 17 kills in the set, with Kerr picking up nine. With 18 digs, Tennessee held Morehead State to 10 kills on .158 hitting.
Following a quick start for Tennessee in the second frame, Morehead State would battle back to within one point late at 18-17. Tennessee would respond with a 5-0 run to quell the Morehead State effort and take a two-set lead. Dostic continued her strong outing at the net, adding another four kills and two aces. Williams contributed for the Lady Vols both in the attack and on defense, logging three kills and two blocks.
Tennessee continued the momentum in the final set, including a 15-0 run to put the match away. A 17-kill effort for the Lady Vols on .500 hitting keyed the final set triumph. Morehead State struggled in the third, posting just four kills on a -.045 hitting percentage. Stout closed the match with five kills and added two blocks. Freshman middle blocker Camille Perry played a big role in the third-set victory, putting up three kills and three blocks. UT had two aces in the third, both coming from senior defensive specialist Sydney Jaynes.
