Tennessee Mascots - University of Tennessee Athletics

Our mascots, Smokey and the Volunteer, are regular sights on the UT sidelines and basketball courts. Smokey has won back-to-back UCA National Championships in 2000 and 2001 and placed second in 1999 and 2002.

Both Smokey and the Volunteer are responsible for performing various skits and stunts throughout game day, as well as performing at various community functions and events.

Candidates are chosen based upon their ability to perform various skits, including improvised and choreographed material. The mascots must be able to attend all home football, basketball and baseball games, be available to travel to away football games and basketball tournaments and attend many scheduled mascot appearences.
