Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame Induction to Have UT Flavor

There will be a University of Tennessee flavor at induction ceremonies for the Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame Thursday, Aug. 2, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Knoxville.
Inductees to the Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame with UT connections include Hank Bertelkamp (basketball 1951-53), Doug Brown (track, 1971-74, head coach 1986-95), Jasmin Jones Keller (track 1988-91), Tim Irwin (football 1977-80), Gordon Polofsky (football, 1949-51) and Steve Searcy (baseball 1983-85).
Also to be inducted are former world heavyweight champion John Tate, Knoxville golfer Bill Faddis, Carson-Newman head football coach Ken Sparks, and former Knoxville News-Sentinel sportswriter Bill Luther.
Under the special recognition category, Todd Helton (baseball 1993-95) will be named Professional Athlete of the Year, Reggie McKenzie (football 1981-84) will be named Administrator of the Year for his service with the Green Bay Packers, Bobby Denton, "The Voice of Neyland Stadium," will be given special recognition for his work with the Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame, and Allan Houston (basketball 1990-93) earns "Thanks for the Memories" honors for his hoops career at UT and with the New York Knicks.
Julie Maples (South-Doyle High School) and Sean Stevens (West High School)are the Female and Male Athlete of the Year.
Guest speaker for the festivities will be former Baltimore Orioles third baseman Brooks Robinson.
