Buzz Peterson Golf Tourney Raises More Than ,000 For Helen Ross McNabb Center
Aug. 4, 2001
He hadn't been in town long, but University of Tennessee head basketball coach Buzz Peterson was an immediate hit at the Coach Buzz Peterson Golf Tournament held as part of the 10th John Adams and Ted Hall Summer Games.
The event was played for the benefit of the Helen Ross McNabb Center at Fox
Den Golf and Country Club July 23. There were 182 participants.

The event raised more than $80,000 for the agency that provides mental health
services to the sickest and poorest individuals and families in 21 locations
in 18 counties across East Tennessee. Coach Peterson also signed basketballs
and other UT memorabilia, which we auctioned off for a total of more than
$1,000.
"It was a banner year for our tournament," said Zack Allen, the
McNabb's >Center's Special Events Coordinator. "This tournament offered
us the chance >to introduce Coach Peterson to Knoxville. He spent about
15 minutes with >each team and had his picture taken. It was just a special
day."
Allen said the money raised would be used in three areas: continue to monitor
and be able to provide treatment for those who have been in the program in
the past, continue substance abuse counseling and treatment for adolescents
and some adults who have no other recourse, and fund a number of social services
programs, vocational training, juvenile justice, family violence prevention
services.
