On a night much of the capacity crowd of 107,881 at Neyland Stadium went home happy after the Vols' 23-20 overtime victory against South Carolina, two fans seated in section CC, row 4, went home with a nice surprise and the title Fan of the Game. It was 6:24 p.m. at Gate 23 at the northeast corner when Phyllis Smith of Oak Ridge, accompanied by husband Fred, was told by representatives of Van Elkins and Associates, the Knoxville accounting firm overseeing the 25 Millionth Fan promotion this season, that she would be the third of seven fans so chosen. The final fan, chosen at the Vanderbilt game Nov. 22, will be the grand prize winner. Phyllis Smith, a Battelle employee in the Atomic City, said she and her husband attended UT in the 1960s and have attended the games full time the past five or 10 years. "I thought something special was going on, like some kind of prize giveaway, and wasn't really paying attention when they told me I was the `Fan of the Game,'" Smith said. "I might have won something once or twice but, really, I've never won anything. I think I'll be able to use everything I won." Smith received a $2500 gift certificate from Goody's Family Clothing, a 25-inch television courtesy of Philips, a $250 Big Orange Checking account from First Tennessee Bank and $250 worth of gift certificates from BreadBox, Kroger and World Travel. The grand prize winner receives a Sea Ray 185 Sport, a Toyota Tundra truck courtesy of Volunteer Toyota Dealers, two season tickets to all UT athletic events for 2004, $250 worth of gift certificates from each sponsor and the opportunity to run through the `T.'
