Patricia Gregg Named Fan of the Game

For Patricia Gregg of South Boston, Va., her first 2003 appearance at Neyland Stadium was the best it could have been pending the outcome of the Tennessee-Vanderbilt game. She was chosen as the 25 Millionth Fan in UT's Year of the Fan promotion, overseen by Knoxville accounting firm Van Elkins and Associates, at approximately 11:53 a.m. Saturday morning at Gate 1 on the east side. Athletics Director Mike Hamilton and Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing Chip Bryant made the presentation. She said she thought she was being interviewed for something on television and, with the Vol Network and UT Internet cameras rolling, she was correct. "I told them, `You're kidding,'" Gregg said. "I had heard a little bit about the contest, and I never thought I would be selected. I had no intention of not taking the prizes."
Gregg won a Toyota Tundra truck courtesy of Volunteer Toyota Dealers, a Sea Ray 185 Sport boat courtesy of Sea Ray Boats and $250 in gift certificates from Bread Box, Goody's Family Clothing, Kroger and World Travel. She also won a $250 First Tennessee Big Orange Banking checking account, a 25-inch Philips television, two tickets to all Tennessee athletic events during the 2004 season and the opportunity to run through the "T" during pre game ceremonies. Her husband, Jim, who was a 1977 UT graduate in business, and sons, Robert and Kenny, accompanied her. Also in the party was her father-in-law, Paul Gregg, a UT student from 1947-48. Her daughter, Jessica Gregg, is a 2003 UT graduate in Salt Lake City. "I might let my husband drive the truck to work," she said. "We also have a big lake near where we live, Lake Buggs Island, near Clarksville, Va." Her appearance with the grand prizes near Gate 21 drew a crowd of curious onlookers, interested in who won the grand prize. One fan in Tennessee colors was heard to remark, "At least it wasn't a Vandy fan."
