Lady Vols Drop 6-3 Decision To No. 24 Texas
March 24, 2000 | Women's Tennis
The Lady Vol tennis team entered its match with No. 24 Texas on Thursday (March 23) evening in Austin, Texas, having never defeated the Longhorns in eight lifetime meetings. The results though would prove to be no different on this night as the Orange and White dropped a 6-3 decision to Texas. Following the loss, UT is now 11-7 overall while the Longhorns improve to 8-5 on the year. Freshman Crystal Cleveland (Delray Beach, Fla.) provided the Lady Vols with their lone singles triumph as she registered her team-leading 17th victory of the year with a, 7-6, 7-6, win over Joanne Masungsung at the No. 6 singles position. In her return to her home-state of Texas, sophomore Alison Ojeda (San Antonio, Texas) teamed with freshman Vilmarie Castellvi (Guaynabo, P.R.) to net a 8-3 win over the Texas duo of Kaysie Smashay and Masungsung at the top doubles hole. Fellow Texan, sophomore Meiling Parks (Abilene, Texas) paired with Cleveland to record the Lady Vols second doubles triumph with a 9-8 victory over Michelle Faucher and Rebecca Forney at No. 3. The Lady Vols will return to action on Sunday (March 26) when No. 31 Louisiana State (10-5, 2-4 SEC) invades Knoxville for a SEC contest at the UT Varsity Courts starting at 1 p.m.
