Athens, Ga. -- In the resumption of Saturday's halted game, the Georgia Bulldogs rallied from a 2-0 deficit to take a 5-3 decision over the Tennessee Volunteers and win the series at Foley Field. It is the first of two games with a seven-inning game to follow.
When the game resumed in the fifth with Tennessee (13-17, 1-7 SEC) leading 2-0, David Coffey smacked a base hit up the middle scoring Chaz Lytle and Lee Mitchel who drew walks with two out and stole second and third to tie the game 2-2.
Coffey and Adam Swan each collected three hits to pace the nine-hit Bulldog attack.
The Vols built their 2-0 lead on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Hopkins in the first and Ryan Moffett's third home run of the season leading off the fourth. Moffett had three of Tennessee's four hits.
After Lytle drew a bases loaded walk in the sixth giving the Bulldogs a 3-2 advantage, Jon Armitage padded the Georgia (15-6, 7-1 SEC) lead in the seventh with a two-out two-run single to left that made it 5-2.
Brandon Moorhead (1-0) picked up his first win of the season as he worked the final five innings in relief of starter Bill Sharpton who allowed two runs on two hits in the first four innings.
Moorhead, who retired the first nine hitters he faced, allowed one base runner on a walk in his first four innings. He ran into trouble in the ninth as the Vols pushed a run across on Moffett's single up the middle that scored Nick Crowe who led off the frame with a base hit to make it 5-3.
Jeffery Terrell (2-5) suffered the loss as he was tagged for all five runs on seven hits in four innings.
Tennessee starter Patrick Hicklen shutout the Bulldogs on two hits over four innings before the rain.
