Fayetteville, Ark. -- Scott Bridges singled home Ryan Fox with the winning run in the bottom of the 12th inning to lift the Arkansas Razorbacks to a 7-6 victory over the Tennessee Volunteers before a season-high crowd of 2,841 at Baum Stadium.
Fox went 3-for-6, driving in three runs, including the game-tying run in the 10th. He also added a two-run single in the third that tied the game 2-2.
Tennessee (20-21, 6-11 SEC) built a 5-2 lead with two runs in the second on a Sternberg double and a sacrifice fly before adding three in the fourth on a three-run triple by Adam Smith who snapped an 0-for-33 slump.
Jordan Czarniecki continued his hot hitting by going 3-for-5 with two doubles, giving him seven hits in nine at-bats for the series. He scored on Hal Bibee's single in the top of the 10th to give the Vols a 6-5 lead
Matt Sternberg also posted his third consecutive two-hit game.
Trailing 5-2, Arkansas (22-14, 6-8 SEC) adding a single run in the fourth on Scott Hode's double and tied the game 5-5 in the fifth, plating both runs on a hit batsman and walk with the bases loaded.
Razorback starter Scott Roehl was chased in the fourth after giving up the three-run triple to Smith. Roehl allowed five runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings. He was backed by solid relief pitching from Jonathan Richmond, who kept the Vols off the board for 4 1/3 innings, giving up just two hits.
Josh Merryman (4-1) worked the final four innings for the victory, giving up one run on two hits. Beau Massey (0-1) took the loss.
Following Hode's double that cut the lead to 5-3 in the bottom of the fourth, Vol starter Jeffery Terrell was lifted after giving up a walk to load the bases. Reliever Joey Andrews got Ryan Fox to fly out to the warning track to end the threat.
Terrell allowed three runs on three hits, but walked six and hit two batters while striking out five in 3 2/3 innings. Andrews logged 5 1/3 innings of relief, giving up three runs on five hits with six strikeouts.
All three pitchers set a school record by hitting six batters, eclipsing the five hit against Florida State in 1998. Arkansas also left a school-record 19 runners on base.
The rubber game of the series will be Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.
