Knoxville, Tenn. -- A good time was had by all as more than 40 Tennessee baseball alumni returned to Lindsey Nelson Stadium to relive old memories and catch up with teammates. With teams comprised of players from the last 50 years, the game was played to a 3-3 stalemate in six innings.
Javi Herrera (2001-03) was named the game's MVP for his work after catching every inning for both squads.
Former coach John Whited (1982-87) managed the White squad, while former Cincinnati Reds catcher Ed Bailey coached the Orange team. In addition, longtime UT coach Bill Wright (1963-81), was also on hand.
The Orange team struck for an unearned run in the first as Eduardo Figueroa (1995-98) singled and scored on an error. Former major leaguer Rick Honeycutt (1973-76) started for the White team and pitched two innings.
The game remained scoreless until the fifth when the White team rallied for three runs. Honeycutt started the rally with a double and tied the game on a single by Jason Pantages (1991-93). Following a Dan Ramirez (1989-90) double, Curt Cornwell (1980-83) laced an RBI double scoring Pantages. Rusty Ensor (1981-82) gave the White a 3-1 lead with his first hit.
The lead was short lived as the Orange team evened the tally board in the sixth on singles by Clay Greene (1996-97) and Brad Love (1999-2000). Despite the rally, the White team out-hit the Orange squad 8-4.
The White team mounted a rally in the bottom of the frame putting runners at second and third with one out. The winning bid fell short though as Panteges lined out to Love who threw to second turning a game-ending double play.
The Orange team consisted of Ed Bailey, Richard Walkney, Ted Arpin, David Mitchell, Eduardo Figueroa, Baker Moore, Clay Greene, Jeff Pickler, Adam Smith, Bill Ferrell, Allen Gray, Mike Lincoln, Travis Brummitt, Logan Brummitt, Greg McMichael and Brad Love.
The White team consisted of Mike McConkey, Curt Cornwell, Rusty Ensor, Dan Ramirez, Jason Pantages, Jeff Morris, Bill OKain, Gary Mashburn, Rick Honeycutt, Mike Smithson, Kendall Stiles and Steve Searcy.
