Collegiate Baseball newspaper's 23rd annual rundown of NCAA Division I baseball recruiting classes was released Friday, with Tennessee's 2006 recruiting class named sixth-best in America. The Volunteers' 18 newcomers include six players who were previously drafted, including pitcher Josh Lindblom, who was Houston's third-round selection this past June.
"I've said all along that this group of recruits really excites me," UT head coach Rod Delmonico said. "To have a publication like Collegiate Baseball recognize that talent and place it among the best in the nation is really satisfying. A lot of credit also has to go to (assistant coaches) Larry Simcox and Mike Bell, whose hard work made it possible to bring such a quality group of players to campus."
This year's signees comprise the fifth top-10 recruiting class in Delmonico's tenure. The Vols' 1994 class garnered a school-best ranking of No. 2 in the country. This year's class is the highest-ranked group of UT signees since 1995 (also ranked No. 6).
South Carolina's recruiting class was ranked atop Monday's Collegiate Baseball listings, while six total Southeastern Conference programs were included in the top-10.
