Vols Second After First Round of Ping/Golfweek Preview

The No. 6 Tennessee men's golf team shot an even-par 284 on Sunday and is in second place after the first round of the PING/Golfweek Preview Invitational at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.
Oklahoma State leads the team standings at 2-under-par 282 . The Cowboys and the Volunteers were the only two teams to finish at par or better. Southern California is third, followed by No. 12 Georgia and No. 17 Florida, fourth and fifth, respectively.
Sophomore Cameron Lawrence, in his first appearance of the season, paced the Vols with a 3-under-par 68, tying for second place. The Brentwood native got off to a good start with five birdies on the front nine.
The only other Vol under par on the first day was sophomore Robin Wingardh. He recorded a 2-under-par 69 to tie for fifth. Wingardh played his best on the back nine, with birdies on Nos. 10, 12 and 15.
Junior David Holmes is tied for 18th, finishing at 1-over-par 72. He went from 3 over to even par with three birdies in a span of five holes, from No. 8 to No. 12.
Chris Paisley was even through 11 holes before a double bogey on No. 12 and a triple bogey on No. 16. The senior finished the day four over par and tied for 34th.
Freshman Darren Renwick rounded out the Tennessee lineup with a 5-over-par 76. He ended the day tied for 44th.
