Alda Clinches Tennessee's 5-2 Win Over LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. - Behind junior Rosalía Alda's straight-set victory at the third roster spot, the 15th-ranked University of Tennessee women's tennis team (10-5, 4-1 SEC) defeated Southeastern Conference foe LSU (6-11, 1-4 SEC) on Friday evening, 5-2.
The Lady Vols kicked off the contest doing what they do best: winning the doubles point. The No. 57 duo of senior Caitlin Whoriskey and junior Maria Sorbello easily downed LSU's Whitney Wolf and Kaitlin Burns, 8-3. Shortly thereafter, the 18th-rated pair of Alda and senior partner Zsófia Zubor pulled a come-from-behind 8-5 victory over Hannah Robinson and Keri Frankenberger to clinch UT's 13th doubles point of the season.
At the third lineup position, junior Jennifer Meredith and sophomore Katie Lee were unable to complete the sweep, falling to LSU's Kylie Adamek and Nicole Kantor 8-7.
Whoriskey collected Tennessee's second point of the evening after winning at the top roster spot. The 12th-ranked player in the country gave up only two games in her 6-1, 6-1 defeat of Wolf.
Finishing within moments of each other were No. 58 Sorbello and Alda. Sorbello claimed a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Burns, while Alda clinched UT's 10th win by beating LSU's Kantor 6-1, 6-4.
Lee gave the Orange and White its fifth and final point of the competition after pushing her match at the No. 6 roster slot to a third-set tiebreaker. LSU's Robinson grabbed set one 6-0, but Lee fought back to claim the second stanza 6-3. The momentum continued to stay with Lee as she wasted no time in winning the tiebreaker 1-0 (7-4) and, ultimately, the match.
Unfortunately, the Big Orange's other competitors, Zubor and freshman Kata Szekely, were unable to secure victories in their respective matches. At the fourth lineup position, Zubor fell to Frankenberger, 6-3, 6-2, while LSU's Ebie Wilson bested Szekely, 6-4, 6-0.
The Lady Vol tennis return home for a dual match with the No. 22 Arkansas Razorbacks on Sunday. First serve is scheduled for noon at the Varsity Tennis Courts on UT's campus.
