Lady Vols Head Coach Pat Summitt
On The Loss:
"Obviously, disappointing for our team. You have to give Virginia a lot of credit, they played really hard. We, for whatever reason, did not play as well as we hoped."
On Being Outrebounded:
"We hope we got a lesson here, this afternoon. We will go back and work on a lot of things and that's got to be one of them."
On Isabelle Harrison's Strong Play:
"She really did (help). I think she did a great job and she's just going to get better and better. I'm glad we have her."
On Lady Vols' Energy:
"I thought it was more what we saw (from Virginia) once we started playing. I think we felt good about our preparation and what we needed to do. For whatever reason, we didn't come out and take care of the business. You know I'm very disappointed, but it's a lesson we can learn. We can go back and watch film and try to get this team focused for the next game. You have to deal with it and move on."
On The Lady Vols Team:
"We have to have more balance on this team. We depend on two or three people and we need to be able to depend on everyone who puts this uniform on and find out who is going to step and do what they need to do."
Lady Vols Assistant Coach Mickie DeMoss
On The Loss:
"We just did not grind it out when we needed to grind out. We were fortunate to get it into overtime, but you can't let a team like Virginia hang around like we did with this crowd - they had a great crowd tonight - we just didn't do the things we needed to do to win the game. (We) shot miserably from the free throw line and when you go on the road you have to knock those down and obviously, we turned the ball over way too much. "
On Vicki Baugh Not Playing:
"I thought probably our rebounding suffered without Vicki playing today. I thought that was an area that she certainly could have helped us in. Also, our low block defense was a little soft at times without Vicki in there. Vicki definitely could have made a difference for us in some areas, but we still had opportunities to win this game, but we didn't close it out."
On The Virginia Defense:
"I have a lot of respect for their defense. They were holding their opponents to 42 points or less and we looked at that stat and thought, wow. We watched them on tape and they play a true match-up zone. They did not give us a lot of breathing room. They had our 3-point shooters covered and when we tried to get the ball inside they got a lot of tips on our passes. I have to give Virginia a lot of credit on their defense."
What The Lady Vols Will Work On In Practice:
"I definitely think we have to work on decision-making, our ball-handling. We were telegraphing our passes against that zone. We just weren't sharp and crisp with our passing. We just seemed real unsure of ourselves. We say `get the ball inside' or `penetrate the zone,' we have to be able to execute the things we want them to do."
On upcoming practices for the Baylor game:
"We have a lot of preparation for Baylor. It's just a matter of us taking care of the fundamental things we did wrong tonight. We had too many walks, we had too many lazy passes, those are fundamental things. We have got to get back to emphasizing that in practice and get back to the basics."
Lady Vols Guard Taber Spani
On The Loss:
"Obviously, it was a tough ball game. We are going to get better from it. You deal with injuries, but you just have to move on."
On Virginia's Game:
"Anytime a team's at home and playing in front of a great crowd, we understand that being the No. 3-ranked team in the country, everyone is going to play their best against us and that's what did. Give them a lot of credit, they came out and played great. We let them play to the momentum of the crowd and let them hang around."
On Shooting:
"We didn't shoot very well, but we have to rely on what Coach Summitt always says ` defense and boards.' If we are shooting well or not, we have to be consistent, we have to go back to the tape and look at it. We understand we are not going to make every shot and we have to win ugly sometimes and we didn't do that today."
On Rebounding:
"I think as guards, a lot of it you have to place on us. They send their bigger guards crashing to the rebounds. We have to help our posts. Sometimes, when they shoot a lot of outside shots there are long rebounds, but there are no excuses. We just have to get the job done."
