GREENVILLE, S.C. - The University of Tennessee women's tennis team will kick off the 2013-14 season at the 27th annual Furman Fall Classic this weekend at the Mickel Tennis Center on the campus of Furman University in Greenville, S.C.
The tournament will feature eight teams, in a flighted competition (i.e. no team winner; individual flight champions for singles and doubles).
Doubles play will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, followed by singles action at 1 p.m. Play will continue on Saturday and Sunday, beginning at 9 a.m. each day.
The Classic will serve as the kickoff of the Lady Vols 2013-14 season as well as a chance for head coaches Mike Patrick and Sonia Hahn-Patrick to see where their team is at after a month of practice.
"I think we have to get a lot of matches under our belt," said junior Joanna Henderson. "I think it is important to get going for the spring and see where we are at."
"Our work ethic is grea, they are buying into the process, they are all getting better and I couldn't ask for much more at this point," said Patrick. "We will see where we are at this weekend and see how much we have to work at to get ready for the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regionals."

- There are six new additions to the 2013-14 Lady Vols Tennis team in freshmen Ashlee Boles (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), Laurence Guevremont (Montreal, Quebec), Brittany Lindl (Panama City, Fla.), Victoria Olivarez (Virginia Beach, Va.), Ambika Pande (Gurgaon, India) and Eve Repic (Oakville, Ontario).
- Co-Head Coaches Mike Patrick and Sonia Hahn-Patrick enter their 17th season at the helm of the women's tennis program. Mike Patrick is in his 27th year as a head coach of the Lady Vols
COMPETING AGAINST THE BEST
- The Lady Vols will take on some tough competition this weekend at the Furman Fall Classic including three other SEC programs in Alabama, South Carolina and Vanderbilt
- Six of the eight schools in attendance were ranked in the final 2013 ITA Poll.
- Alabama (11), Clemson (13), Vanderbilt (19), Florida State (24), Tennessee (31) and South Carolina (34)
