Postgame Quotes: #4/5 UT 59, Texas 72
November 30, 2014 | Women's Basketball
Head Coach Holly Warlick
(On the loss)
"We got outworked. We got outplayed. We gave up too many transition points. They had too many second chance points, and we shot poorly from the free throw line. In the first half, we were quick shooting the basketball. Our plan was to make them have to defend and we didn't do that the first half. We settled in and did that a little in the second half, but you dig yourself in a hole and then you have to get stops. The game is about defense and rebounding. We can't seem to grasp the importance of defense. It's probably going to take us keep getting our butts beat to realize the importance of getting it down and playing in a stance. You can't defend someone when you're standing straight up. We seem to think that we can do that. We're just going to have to go back and work and figure out how we can defend people because if we shoot as poorly as we do, we have to do something to keep us in the game."
Redshirt sophomore Andraya Carter
(On how the team feels after two losses )
"We're a little down. It's hard. It's really frustrating. A lot of us aren't used to losing, especially two games in a row. We know what we're capable of."
(On missing senior Isabelle Harrison on the court)
"We really miss Izzy. It's not just her points. It's her heart. She's a leader for us. She's still been a vocal leader from the bench, but there's nothing like seeing her leading on the court."
(On Texas being able to get up shots after Lady Vols scoring)
"You get a good shot and run it right back up your back. It's a momentum killer. It gets them going. It's tough to come back from."
(On missing free throw shots)
"I think we're all better shooters than we're showing. With free throws, it's shooting when we're that exhausted. We were going to the line very tired. Being able to calm yourself down, it's hard when you're exhausted. You can't simulate that in individual workouts."
(On where the team goes to from here)
"You go back to work. We have to have really good practices, get into the gym. I think there was a championship team that lost 10 games. Obviously we don't want to keep losing but if this is what it's going to take to teach us. We have to keep pushing and have to keep going."
