AUBURN, Ala. -- Maria Jimenez finished runner-up in the women's javelin and Carson Frost grabbed a top-five finish in the men's hammer throw as Tennessee opened up its weekend at the War Eagle Invitational.
Jimenez, competing in her first season at UT after transferring from Monmouth, turned in Tennessee's top finish of the day when she placed second in the women's javelin with a mark of 142 feet, nine inches (43.51). Her top throw of the evening came on her third of six attempts on the evening. It was the second top-five finish in as many weeks for Jimenez after she placed third at last weekend's Tennessee Relays.
Carson Frost and Deon McAdoo led off the day for Tennessee with a pair of top-10 showings in the men's hammer throw. Frost found his way inside the top five with an effort of 172 feet, nine inches (52.66) to finish fifth while McAdoo was close behind in sixth at 169 feet, 10 inches. Those finishes are the best individual placements for Frost and McAdoo this season, with the fifth-place finish standing as the best of the former's career.
Tennessee has a busy Saturday in store on day two of the War Eagle Invitational. The Volunteers will send 21 athletes to compete across 17 events, starting with the women's pole vault at 12 p.m. ET.
