December 01, 2016 | Women's Basketball
ATLANTA -- Tennessee’s Diamond DeShields is among 25 student-athletes named to the 2017 Wade Trophy Watch List, the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association announced Thursday.
DeShields, a 6-1 guard, ranks first on the team in assists (4.3 apg.) and blocked shots (1.7), second in scoring (15.0 ppg.), and third in steals (1.3) and rebounding (7.2). She is shooting .444 from the field thus far, including .353 from the three-point arc, and is hitting .750 from the free throw line. The Norcross, Ga., native has two double-doubles this season and narrowly missed another.
This marks the second straight season DeShields has been included on the Wade Watch List.
DeShields, who was tabbed by the media and coaches as a 2016-17 preseason All-SEC First Team selection, was recently named to the Naismith Trophy Watch List for the third time in her career.
She and her Lady Vol teammates return to action on Sunday, as they play host to fourth-ranked Baylor in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge. Tip time is 2 p.m. ET at Thompson-Boling Arena.
