Lindl Cracks ITA Rankings to Start Spring
January 04, 2017 | Women's Tennis
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- With the spring season only a few weeks from getting started, senior Brittany Lindl will begin the dual-match play ranked 64th in the country in singles.
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association released its updated rankings on Wednesday, and Lindl finds herself on the list for the first time in her career.
"I'm unbelievably excited to finally get ranked," Lindl said. "I've worked really hard to improve both on court and with my fitness level and couldn't have gotten it without my teammates pushing me every day at practice."
During the fall, Lindl totaled five wins in singles, including a 6-2, 7-6 (2) victory over then No. 68 Anna Sanford from Ohio State in the Tennessee Fall Invite. The ranking comes as no surprise to head coach Alison Ojeda, though.
"Brittany has done a fantastic job of improving her fitness, which has allowed her to train mentally at a higher level all fall," Ojeda said. "What I'm most excited about is that fact that Brittany has raised the standard in practice. She's helping to make all of her teammates better."
The spring season begins Jan. 14 at the Michigan Invite in Ann Arbor. The team opens team play Jan. 21 against Air Force and Middle Tennessee at Goodfriend Tennis Center.
"I'm looking forward to our season and our team would love our community's support, so come watch us compete," Ojeda said.
