BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Tennessee junior Christian Coleman was named SEC Co-Runner of the Week for the third time this season the conference office announced Tuesday.
Coleman extended his NCAA and World lead in the 200m dash this weekend at the Tiger Paw Invitational hosted by Clemson. Coleman moved into third place on Tennessee’s all-time indoor 200m record list with a time of 20.46. Coleman surpassed Leonard Scott (20.47) as he bettered his time of 20.49, which he set at the Razorback Invitational earlier this year. He now sits behind only Rubin Williams (20.36) and Justin Gatlin (20.42) in Tennessee history.
The Atlanta native also notched the Clemson University Indoor Complex record that was set earlier this year by Tevin Hester at 20.96.
Coleman has not lost a race this year, finishing first every time he has taken to the track. Coleman now holds the top time in the NCAA and the world during the 2017 indoor season in the 200m dash. He also leads the NCAA and is second in the world in the 60m.
Coleman shared the men’s Runner of the Week award with Texas A&M’s Fred Kerley who won the 400m race at the Tiger Paw Invitational with a world-leading 400m time of 45.02.
This is the seventh time overall and third time this year that Coleman has earned the SEC Runner of the Week Award. He won the award three times as a sophomore and once as a freshman. He has also earned recognition from the SEC as the SEC Freshman of the week twice. He earned the SEC Freshman of the Year and SEC Indoor Runner of the Year after earning the Cliff Harper Award for the top scorer at the SEC Indoor meet last year.
This is the fifth SEC weekly awards Tennessee has won in 2017 as Shania Collins won the women’s runner of the week award on January 10 and Domonique Turner was named Freshman of the Week last week.
