Cross Country Named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The Tennessee men's and women's cross country teams were both named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team the coaches' association announced on Thursday.
The men's team finished with a combined GPA of 3.12 and the women's squad compiled a stellar GPA of 3.76 during the 2016 fall semester. The women's squad tied for the second-highest GPA in the country; Georgia State had the highest team GPA of 3.85 while Bowling Green also posted a 3.76 mark.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, the cumulative team GPA of all the student-athletes on the NCAA squad must be above 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
The academic team award comes one day after 10 cross country runners were named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll on Wednesday. Joe Bindner, Nick Brey, Drew Kelley, Trey Quealy, and Robinson from the men's team, while Cassidy Giles, Meske, Emma Reed, Jessica Rizor and Julia Rizor from the women's squad were honored by the SEC for maintaining a cumulative GPA above 3.0 for their academic careers.
The men's cross country team placed 10th in the NCAA South regional as Zach Long led the way with a 14th place individual finish. Long finished in 30:56.0 followed by Wesley Robinson's 60th place finish of 32:17.8.
Megan Murray and Peighton Meske competed for the women's team at the South Regional as Murray placed 35th with a time of 21:11.1 in the 6K while Meske finished in 63rd place with a time of 21:41.7.
