Last Time Out
Tennessee enters the weekend ranked 22nd on the men’s side and 27th on the women’s side after an SEC Championship where the men finished in a tie for ninth place and the women placed 12th.
Coleman won two SEC individual titles on Saturday as he became the first person in collegiate history to run under 10 seconds in the 100m and under 20 seconds in the 200m in wind-legal conditions. Coleman recorded a time of 9.97 seconds in the 100m, the fourth-fastest time in the world this year and the fastest by an American. He followed that up less than an hour later by running the 200m in 19.98 seconds. That mark is the top wind-legal 200m in the country this year and the fourth fastest in the world. He missed the all-time collegiate top 10 list by .01 seconds in both events. He earned the SEC Commissioner’s Trophy as the meet’s top scorer as he finished with 20.5 points. Coleman was also named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week.
Mustaqeem Williams tied a personal best with a 100m time of 10.33 as he took fifth place. Zach Long posted the best 5000m time by a Vol since 1991 when he finished in fourth place with a mark of 13:54.49.
Zajac uncorked a career-best toss of 191 feet (58.22m) to score six points for the Vols. The junior, who finished seventh at last year's SEC meet, broke into seventh position on the all-time school record list for the discus. Freshman Darryl Sullivan soared over the high jump bar at his college-best height of 7-0.50 (2.15m) to snare fifth-place.
In the men's hammer, Seth Whitener cashed in for two points with a toss of 214-11 (65.52m). Pole vaulter Tristan Slater, tied for sixth place in the men's pole vault. He was able to navigate the bar at 16-7.50 (5.07m) on a day that saw six vaulters no-height.
Stamatia Scarvelis and Candice Butler carded runner-up and seventh-place finishes, respectively, tallying 10 points in the hammer throw. Scarvelis rose from fifth to second on her final throw of the meet, an effort of 209-3 (63.79m). Butler's best toss was a mark of 193-5 (58.97m), which she registered on her first attempt of the finals to move from ninth to seventh.
Junior Cidae'a Woods earned two points in the women's long jump. She stretched the tape to 21-0 (6.40m), posting her best-ever mark outdoors. It marked the second year in a row she scored at the outdoor meet in this event, taking fifth in 2016.
