Lady Vols Fall at Mississippi State, 4-2
April 05, 2018 | Women's Tennis
STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Despite a late rally, the 31st-ranked Tennessee women's tennis team came up short on the road against No. 32 Mississippi State, 4-2, at A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre on Thursday.
The Lady Vols (16-8, 2-8 SEC) had the early momentum in doubles, as Elizabeth Profit and Chelsea Saywer defeated the duo of Sara Lizariturry and Anastasia Rentouli on Court 3, 6-2. The Bulldogs would take the doubles point, though, after winning a tiebreaker on Court 1.
MSU extended its lead to 2-0, but the Big Orange rallied back to tie things up at 2-2. Profit got things started with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Janina Braun, and then Gabby Schuck defeated Sara Lizariturry, 7-6 (3), 6-1. Although the Lady Vols held the advantage on one of the three remaining courts, Mississippi State was able to close out on the other two to win the match.
Tennessee will be back in action on Saturday against Ole Miss at 11 a.m. ET in Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center. For the most up-to-date information about the Tennessee women's tennis program, follow @Vol_WTennis on Twitter.
