January 19, 2020 | Women's Tennis
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Sunday morning marked the conclusion of the Michigan Invitational for the Lady Vols' tennis team. UT netted a pair of wins on the final day in Ann Arbor.Â
Â
"We are leaving this weekend having learned a lot about our program," head coach Alison Ojeda said. "We are a feisty team who wants to win and is willing to do what it takes to be successful. Additionally, I'm very impressed with our freshmen. They have jumped right into competition and are proving that they can compete at a very high level."
Â
UT senior Johanna Silva wrapped up the event with a three-set win, 6-7, 7-3, 1-0 (9), over Ohio Sate's Irinia Cantos. With the win, Silva extends a season-long, five-match winning streak in the month of January.
Â
Tennessee freshman Carly Briggs earned a win over Ohio State's Isabelle Boulais in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Briggs went 2-1 over the weekend, carding a 4-1 record to begin her collegiate career.
Â
"When we head back home, we will practice a few specific skills that will help us get ready for another tough weekend of competition in Kansas," Ojeda said.Â
Â
Up next, the Lady Vols (2-0) travel to Lawrence, Kansas, to compete in the ITA Kickoff Weekend beginning Friday, Jan. 24.
