Silva Tabs 88th Career Win, Lady Vols Season Wraps Up in Charlottesville

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Tennessee women's tennis team's 2021 campaign came to a close on Saturday, falling in a hard-fought 4-2 decision to Virginia in the NCAA Tournament.
When the Cavaliers had a 3-1 lead, senior Johanna Silva cut the deficit to 3-2 with a 6-3, 6-4 win on court six over Sofia Munera. The senior wraps up her collegiate career as one of the greats to don the Orange and White.
Silva owns 88 career wins, placing her 14th all-time on the Lady Vols singles career win list. She wraps up with an 57-27 singles record in dual-match plat and owns a 21-15 record against SEC foes.
The Lady Vols (17-9) dropped the doubles point to the Cavaliers (16-6) to head to singles play with a 1-0 deficit.
The No. 32-ranked duo of junior Daria Kuczer and freshman Esther Adeshina picked up the lone doubles win for UT. They downed the No. 17-ranked duo of Sofia Munera and Natasha Subhash 6-1 on court one for their fourth-straight win and 14th win this season as a duo.
Virginia opened singles scoring with a win on court two to take a 2-0 lead. No. 66-ranked sophomore Carly Briggs earned her second-straight solo match to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Calhoun, Georgia product downed No. 90-ranked Rosie Johanson 6-2, 6-2 on court three to earn her eighth victory in dual-match play.
Virginia provided the final margin of victory with a win on court four.
