MILESTONE IN SIGHT FOR WOODRUFF
A win Sunday would give Tennessee head coach Chris Woodruff career coaching win No. 100 since taking the helm at his alma mater prior the start of the 2017-18 season. Along with becoming the fifth UT men's tennis coach to reach 100 career coaching victories with the program, Woodruff would also become the second-fastest of those five to reach the century mark, doing so in 127 matches, should the Vols defeat Georgia. Sam Winterbotham (2007-17) reached 100 coaching victories in 121 matches.
BATTLE-TESTED
With the eighth-ranked Bulldogs making a visit to Knoxville, it serves as the ninth time Tennessee will face a top-25 opponent in the last ten matches. All but one of those teams have been ranked inside the top 15, with five having been in the top 10 of the ITA Rankings. The Vols are 7-4 against ranked competition this season and boast three top-10 triumphs.
200 WINS FOR WALTSY
Fifth-year Vol Adam Walton etched his name further into the record books last week, as his 6-3 doubles win with Pat Harper against South Carolina's Beasley/Samuel marked his 92nd career doubles victory the 200th overall win of his Tennessee career, including all singles and doubles matches. Only eight players in program history had accumulated 200 overall wins in a career prior to Walton doing so. He now owns 108 career singles victories and 92 doubles wins.
PATTY HARPER
Senior Pat Harper is 3-0 in singles action this season, with all three victories coming at the No. 6 spot in the lineup and two coming in straight sets. With his 7-5, 6-4 win over 119th-ranked Nate Bonetto of Florida, Harper secured the 40th overall singles win (40-18) of his Tennessee career.
HE'S A FRESHMAN?
Freshman Shunsuke Mitsui has won 24 of his 30 (.800) singles matches this season and holds a 14-2 record (4-0 SEC) in dual matches this spring. With a 9-2 mark at the No. 5 singles slot, Mitsui is riding a five-match win streak, with three of those coming on court five.
CHASING HISTORY
In October, graduate student Adam Walton earned his 100th career singles win to become the 11th-ever Vol to reach the century mark in career singles triumphs. With a 6-3 doubles win with Pat Harper over South Carolina's Beasley/Samuel pairing last Friday, Walton now stands eight doubles victories away from 100. Reaching this feat would make him just the sixth Vol in program history to accrue 100 career doubles and 100 career singles wins.
UP NEXT
Tennessee returns to the Lone Star State for a second time this season, playing at Texas A&M Friday, before traveling to the Bayou to face LSU Sunday. First serve against the Aggies is set for 7 p.m. ET, with Tennessee's match at LSU scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
