Match Preview: #16 Lady Vols Return Home For Match Against Florida

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The #16 Tennessee volleyball program returns to Food City Center tomorrow night, as they host the Florida Gators. First serve for the match is slated for 7:00 p.m., and the match will be televised nationally on SEC Network.
Doors will open one hour before the match, and fans can purchase tickets on AllVols.com. Parking is available on the top level of G-5/G-30 garage located at the corner of Lake Loudoun and Phillip Fulmer Way, directly across the street from the arena. Gate B will be the entrance for general fans, while students and player guests are encouraged to use Gate C. The clear bag policy is in effect for the match. The Big Orange capped off a three-game road swing on this past Sunday, earning a sweep over Ole Miss. Hayden Kubik once again led the team in kills, notching 13 in the match. Kubik has finished in double figures in all five contest in SEC play and in 11 of her last 12 matches. Caroline Kerr led the team with 29 assists, while the duo of Maggie Dostic and Mackenzie Plante each had nine digs. The Lady Vols were led at the net by Chelsea Sutton and Zoë Humphrey, each finishing with three blocks.
Florida is coming off a pair of wins in conference play, defeating Missouri and Vanderbilt at home. The Gators are led in offensively by redshirt sophomore outside Jordyn Byrd, who enter the week seventh in the SEC in kills with 230 and is averaging 3.90 kills per set. Helping lead the offense is Alexis Stucky, with the setter ranking seventh in the conference in both assists (548) and assists per set (9.45) this season. Freshman libero Lily Hayes leads the team and is seventh in the conference in digs with 213. Hayes recently earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors after posting 20 digs and seven assists against Missouri last Friday and then another 16 digs against Vanderbilt on Sunday. Florida ranks second in the SEC with 14.73 digs per set, with Hayes ranking seventh in the conference individually at 3.65. Florida holds the advantage in the all-time series against Tennessee, entering play with 56-15-1 record. The Gators won last season match-up in four sets, and have won six of the last seven between the two programs.
Offense continues to be a huge part of the Big Orange success this season. Tennessee comes into the week with a .324 hitting percentage, leading the conference and ranking second nationally while ranking 22nd in Division I and fourth in the SEC in kills per set (13.88). The offensive production this season has been a full team effort, with six players having 50 or more kills. Leading the group is Hayden Kubik 166 kills, ranking ninth in the conference in both kills per set (3.95) and points per set (4.48). Paityn Chapman is next for the Lady Vols at 133 kills and is followed by Chelsea Sutton at 104. Sutton also leads the team with a .434 hitting percentage, good for second in the conference and 13th in the nation. Chapman joins Sutton in the top-10 in the conference, coming in eighth with a .351 hitting percentage.

Five player are leading the charge at the net with 20-plus blocks. Sutton leads the group a with 63 blocks and is followed by Humphrey with 53. Sutton is leading the team at 1.29 blocks per set, a top-50 stat in the country and the fifth-best in the conference. The floor defense has also been strong early for the Lady Vols, with the team averaging 12.88 digs per set and led in the digs this season by Gülce Güçtekin at 198.

Kerr has 2,801 assists in her career, the tenth-most in program history, Kerr also ranks in the top-10 in assists per set, with her 10.65 total sitting seventh all-time. Kerr has tallied 30 or more assists in eight matches, including a season-high 53 assists against Georgia Tech on Sept. 9. That marked her 10th career match with 50 or more assists. Kerr has twice earned SEC Setter of the Week honors this season, giving the Champaign, Illinois-native a total of five in her career.
