#16 Lady Vols Roll, Defeat Auburn For 11th Sweep This Season

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The No. 16 Tennessee earned its 11th sweep on Sunday afternoon with a 25-23, 25-23, 26-24 victory against Auburn inside Food City Center.
The Lady Vols (14-3, 5-2 SEC) enjoyed an all-around performance, assisting on 47 of their 50 kills in the contest while hitting .231 for the match. The Big Orange tallied six aces while limiting the Tigers (13-6, 4-4 SEC) to just two. Defensively, UT ended with 42 digs and nine blocks to hold Auburn to .229 hitting.Â
Senior outside hitter Hayden Kubik recorded a match-high 17 kills–pushing her over the 200 kill mark for the season. She added eight digs and one ace in the contest.
Sophomore middle blocker Chelsea Sutton matched her career high in kills (15) on .667 hitting. She was one of five Lady Vols to record multiple blocks, as she netted three. Redshirt freshman Zoe Humphrey led all players with five blocks to go along with four kills and a dig.Â
Rounding out the offensive attack, junior outside hitter Mackenzie Plante recorded nine kills, eight digs, two blocks and an ace. Guiding the UT attack, redshirt junior Caroline Kerr posted 41 assists–an average of 13.7 per set–as well as eight digs, three blocks and an ace.Â
Holding down the back row, senior libero Gülce Güçtekin led Tennessee with 10 digs and two aces to go with five assists and one kill.
The Lady Vols opened the match on a 6-0 run to swing the momentum in their favor early. The defense showed up early, holding the Tigers to .186 hitting thanks to 17 digs and four blocks. Auburn made a run during the middle of the frame, but UT never trailed in the opening set.
Tennessee's second set victory featured eight ties with the Lady Vols responding to each Auburn push. Kubik led the Lady Vols with eight kills. A back-and-forth set saw the Tigers tie the match at 23-23, but then Sutton earned her sixth kill of the set and then recorded a block with Kerr to win the frame.
Tennessee rounded out the match by assisting on 16 of the 17 kills. Kerr had 13 of the 16 to pace an offense that saw three Lady Vols post four or more kills. Kubik led the way with six kills, while Plante posted five and Sutton had four.
Up next, the Lady Vols hit the road on Friday to Tuscaloosa, Ala. to face off against the Crimson Tide, scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and will be streamed on SEC Network+.
