Tennessee Totals Eight Qualifying Marks In Friday’s SEC Indoor Prelims

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Tennessee track & field totaled eight qualifying performances during Friday's evening session of preliminary rounds on the track at the 2026 SEC Indoor Championships. The conference meet wraps up Saturday, beginning at 3 p.m. ET with the men's high jump final and concluding at approximately 8:05 p.m. with the men's 4x400-meter relay final.
Lady Vol freshman standout Mary Nyaboke Ogwoka opened Friday's track events advancing to the women's mile final in her SEC Championship debut. The Kenyan international won her heat with a time of 4:43.01 to automatically qualify for the final, set for Saturday at 5:50 p.m. ET.
The Vols had a pair of qualifiers in the men's mile in freshman Nelson Mapi Setek and sophomore Gavin Genisio. Setek won his heat with a time of 4:03.01, while Genisio qualified on time with his mark of 4:03.37. The duo will aim for a scoring mark in the final on Saturday, scheduled for 5:15 p.m. ET.
Redshirt junior sprinter Traunard Folson was the lone Vol to advance in the men's 60-meter dash, turning in a time of 6.62 seconds that was the seventh-fastest in the qualifying round. He enters Saturday's final with a collegiate-leading season-best of 6.49 and will aim for the conference title at 5:32 p.m. ET.
In the women's 400-meter dash, Lady Vol senior Javonya Valcourt booked her second-straight trip to the SEC indoor final with a heat-winning time of 52.29. The Olympian from Nassau, Bahamas, will vie for points in the quarter-mile at 5:40 p.m. ET.
Junior mid-distance specialist Ka'Myya Haywood earned her third-straight ticket to the SEC indoor 800-meter final with a strong run in prelims, finishing second in her heat and fifth overall with a time of 2:05.97. The Jacksonville, Florida, native will run the final on Saturday at 6 p.m. ET.
Tennessee rounded out the women's portion of Friday's action with two standout performances in the 60-meter hurdles. Defending SEC champion Myreanna Bebe clocked a season-best 7.96 to make her second-straight conference final, and Skye Tolbert turned in a personal-best of 8.15 to move up to No. 9 in school history.
In the field event, Vol sophomore Aidan Ifkovits tallied two points for the Vols in the men's weight throw. The Loveland, Ohio, native placed seventh in his first career SEC final, tossing the implement 21.89 meters (71-10).
