Itsusaki Shines in Vols’ Loss to #10 Aggies, 4-1
March 29, 2026 | Men's Tennis
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Freshman Shion Itsusaki was able to pick up a two-set win in singles despite Tennessee men's tennis losing to No. 10 Texas A&M, 4-1, Sunday afternoon at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
Texas A&M controlled the doubles point from the jump, leading on all three courts at the break. Court one was the first to finish with the Aggies partnership winning 6-1. A&M's court two followed the result with a 6-2 triumph of their own to give the Aggies a 1-0 advantage.
The Tennessee duo of Woodson McMillin and Piotr Siekanowicz kept things interesting on court three, tying the set at 4-4 after being down 4-2. The nail-biter went unfinished at 5-4 Aggies, however, after the doubles portion was clinched.
Texas A&M opened up singles with a swift win on court three after No. 68 Alex Frusina took down Jan Kobierski, 6-1, 6-2.
Itsusaki provided a spark for the Volunteers, being the only Vol to claim a first set. He followed it up with another great performance to close out a 6-3, 6-3 triumph on court five against Kriish Tyagi.
Texas A&M, however, was able to make the result unfruitful with singles wins on court six and one. Those two victories clinched the match for the Aggies.
Court two and five were close ones that both needed seven games to finish the first stanza. Alejandro Moreno, despite dropping the first set, came out hot in the second to tally a 5-3 lead before the competition went unfinished. Boruch Skierkier's match on five was abandoned at 6-7, 4-5.
