The Fall season rolls on for the Tennessee men's golf team as the Vols are set for the second of four tournaments, with the Inverness Intercollegiate beginning on Sunday.
The 54-hole event will take place Sunday, Sept. 13, through Tuesday, Sept. 15, with 18 holes of competition taking place on each day. Portions of round two and three will be broadcast live on ESPN+, beginning at 1 p.m. ET on each day.
Widely considered as one of the most prestigious tournaments in college golf, 2026 marks the 18th edition of the Inverness Intercollegiate. Past participants in the event include major champions Brian Harman (Georgia), Dustin Johnson (Coastal Carolina), Brooks Koepka (Florida State), Colin Morikawa (California) and Patrick Reed (Augusta).
The Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, will play host to the event. The course has hosted four U.S. Opens, two PGA Championships, two NCAA Men's Championships, and the Solheim Cup. Additionally, Inverness is the only club to have hosted the U.S. Open, U.S. Amateur, U.S. Senior Open, and U.S. Junior Amateur. The par-71 course will play at 7,554 yards for the Inverness Intercollegiate.
Tennessee began the ninth season of the Brennan Webb era in winning fashion at the team's opening tournament of the season, the Visit Knoxville Collegiate. The Vols closed at 15-under-par at Fox Den Country Club to win the home event for the third time in the four years it has existed. The season-opening victory means 2026-27 is the sixth season of the Webb era with at least one team victory.
2026 will mark the third time Tennessee has competed in the Inverness Intercollegiate. The previous two appearances proved to be very successful for the Vols, claiming first place in 2018 and second place in 2019, the opening two seasons of Coach Webb's tenure. This year's edition of the event will be the first time Tennessee has competed in the state of Ohio since the runner-up finish in 2019.
TENNESSEE LINEUP:
Jackson Herrington
Herrington picked up where he left off in 2025-26 with a strong start to his junior season at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate. He tied for seventh place in the event, shooting 4-under-par behind two rounds in the 60s. Herrington posted a 4-under-par 66 in round three to climb into the top-10 and help the Vols make a comeback for the team title.
Rudy Sautron
A senior transfer from Nebraska, Sautron was immensely impressive in his Tennessee debut at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate. He was the only Vol to card three consecutive rounds under par in the event, opening with a pair of 1-under-par 69s before excelling with a 7-under-par 63 in the final round. At 9-under-par for the tournament, Sautron came just one stroke shy of claiming the individual title, earning runner-up honors to open his account on Rocky Top.
Pennson Badgett
Another impressive debutant for Tennessee, Badgett remains firmly in the lineup after a strong performance at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate. The freshman carded three consecutive rounds of par or better in his collegiate debut to shoot 3-under-par across 54 holes. His tie for 13th place was key in Tennessee's team victory.
Bruce Murphy:
The lone fifth-year athlete on Tennessee's roster, Murphy will compete in the lineup for Tennessee at the Inverness Intercollegiate after opening the season as an individual at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate. Murphy has been consistent representing the Vols over the three seasons and change, amassing a 72.02 career scoring average and 44 career rounds of par or better.
Luke Smith:
Similarly to Murphy, Smith rounds out the Tennessee lineup after competing as an individual at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate to begin the Fall. The sophomore from Toronto steadily improved for the Vols in the Spring; all four of his top-25 finishes in the 2025-26 season came during the Spring. Smith closed his freshman campaign with a 72.04 scoring average and 14 rounds of par or better.
