Herrington Leads Vols Through Round Two of Inverness Intercollegiate
September 14, 2026 | Men's Golf
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Inverness Intercollegiate continued for the Tennessee men's golf team on Monday with round two contested at the Inverness Club.
Entering the day tied for second place at 7-over-par, the Vols shot an 11-over-par 295 in round two to fall back to ninth place at 18-over-par overall. Iowa, who entered the day with an eight-stroke lead, continues to hold the team lead at 4-over-par. However, Auburn and Texas Tech, who hold overall scores of 5-over-par and 6-over-par, respectively, made up significant ground in round two.
Tennessee's best performer through 36 holes is Jackson Herrington. A back-and-forth round two saw the junior tally five birdies en route to a 1-over-par 72. Herrington started the day 1-under-par through the opening nine holes, but a double bogey on hole No. 15 played a large role in keeping him from posting a red number. At 3-over-par for the tournament, he is tied for 20th place among the field of 90, six shots back of the individual lead.
After bogey troubles in round one, Luke Smith bounced back with the Vols' joint-best score in round two. The sophomore from Toronto matched Herrington with a 1-over-par 72, fueled by three birdies on his opening 11 holes. Now at 8-over-par overall, the jump in performance saw Smith jump 17 spots individually from a tie for 73rd place to a tie for 56th place.
Bruce Murphy secured another countable score for Tennessee with his second consecutive 4-over-par round of 75. The fifth-year from Atlanta posted three birdies on the back nine, including a birdie to close the day on hole No. 18. At 8-over-par, he is tied with Smith for 56th place entering Tuesday's final round.
Pennson Badgett and Rudy Sautron tied for Tennessee's final countable score in round two, each turning in a 5-over-par 76. The pair remains in the top half of the individual standings as Badgett is tied for 32nd place at 5-over-par, while Sautron is tied for 39th place at 6-over-par.
