- Title:
- Director of Operations
As Director of Operations, Wong's primary responsibilities include working with the Data Volley and Data Video programs, assisting with video breakdown and scouting. He will also take on many administrative duties, including arranging for travel and lodging accommodations and other day-to-day tasks.
Wong, a former defensive specialist/libero at Lindenwood University, will be making his second collegiate stop in a coaching career that has seen him log significant time at multiple volleyball clubs and academies, not to mention a short tenure in the high school ranks.
Wong earned his degree from Lindenwood in 2012 with a double major in athletic training and exercise science. He was a four-year member of the men's volleyball team, helping the Lions to two Mid-America Men's Volleyball Intercollegiate Conference (MAMVIC) titles and an NAIA National Championship in 2009.
Following his graduation, Wong enrolled at Florida International University where he served as a Graduate Assistant in FIU's Sports Medicine department. There, he worked primarily with the Golden Panthers' football, track and field, and volleyball programs, ultimately graduating in 2014 with a master's in Sport & Fitness Studies. Wong spent last season as a volunteer assistant volleyball coach at South Florida. The Bulls went 14-18 with an 8-12 mark in the American Athletic Conference.
During these various stops, Wong began carving out his coaching acumen with local clubs and high schools. While at Lindenwood he served as an assistant coach at Francis Howell Central High School in St. Charles, Missouri. He also worked with the St. Charles Stars Volleyball Club, assisting with training programs for the 18-1's team, and also with the St. Louis High Performance Volleyball Club.
Upon relocating to Miami to attend FIU, Wong began coaching at the Rita Crockett Volleyball Academy where he served as a camp coach and trained players aged 5-18 in the different skills of volleyball. He even served as an interim assistant volleyball coach for the Golden Panthers in November of 2013, assisting the FIU staff with in-game analysis through Data Volley and other administrative duties.
After landing his volunteer assistant job at USF, Wong kept himself busy by accepting further coaching duties at Tampa Bay One Volleyball Club. With Tampa Bay One, Wong worked primarily with the 15-Black team and assisted with player development. Not long after joining Tampa Bay One, he began work with USAV Team Florida High Performance--a club with which he continues to work today. Wong is the assistant coach for Team Florida Indoor High Performance where his primary responsibilities include Data Volley, scouting, on-court training, and administrative duties.
Wong grew up in Orlando, Florida, and attended Edgewater High School. He is the son of Rebecca Wong and has four siblings: sisters Karen, Joann, and Jacklynn, and brother Jason.
