Vols In 9th After First 36 of Sea Best Invitational

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- Junior Lorenzo Scalise and freshman Jake Meenhorst each carded rounds under par on Monday and the Tennessee men's golf team sits in ninth place after the first two rounds of the Ninth Annual Sea Best Invitational at Dye's Valley Course at TPC Sawgrass.

Scalise, Meenhorst and Juan Carlos Serrano are all in the top 25 and the Vols combined to shoot 15-over 575 through the first 36 holes. Tennessee was in seventh place after the first round at 7-over 287 and shot 8-over 288 in the second.
Florida leads the 15-team field at 8-under 552. North Carolina (7-under 553) and Lipscomb (even-par 560) round out the top three teams. Florida's Ryan Orr, who is competing as an individual, leads the 83-player field at 7-under 133.
Scalise and Meenhorst are tied for 19th place at 2-over 142. Meenhorst was tied for 12th place after shooting 1-under 69 in the opening round, his first-ever as a Vol. He started the day on the 10th tee and was 2-over at the turn before catching fire late with birdies on the fourth, sixth and seventh holes. He shot 3-over 73 in the second round with birdies on the 11th and 17th to help make up for a double bogey on No. 10 and a triple bogey on No. 1.
Scalise climbed nine spots in the standings from the morning to the afternoon. In the first round, he shot 2-over 72 with birdies on No. 14 and No. 7. Scalise, who started on the eighth tee, was sharp in the second round with a birdie on the fourth hole and a bogey on the sixth to finish at even-par 70. He enjoyed a stretch of 16-straight holes of par or better in the second round and his 29 pars through 36 holes ranks second among all players.
Serrano is tied for 25th at 4-over 144. He notched birdies on holes No. 10, No. 12 and No. 2 in the first round en route to a 1-over 71. In the second round, he carded a 3-over 73 with birdies on the 13th and 14th.
Senior Jack Smith is tied for 55th at 9-over 149 and freshman Hunter Wolcott is tied for 70th at 12-over 152. Smith improved by one stroke in the second round, shooting 4-over 74 with four birdies. Wolcott had an eight-stroke improvement with his second-round 2-over 72. Wolcott also posted four birdies in the second round.
Vols freshman Rhys Nevin is competing as an individual and sits tied for 47th at 8-over 148. Nevin-Wharton started the day on the 18th and shot 5-over 75 in the first round with birdies on No. 1 and No. 11 and 3-over 73 in the second round with birdies on the 10th and 16th.
Tuesday's final round will begin at 8 a.m. ET with a double tee start. Golfstat will have live scoring.
