WTEN Central: Lady Vols vs. #2 Georgia/Chattanooga

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The 30th-ranked Tennessee women's tennis team opens SEC play while also wrapping up its non-conference slate Saturday at Barksdale Tennis Stadium.

The Lady Vols (9-2) will take on the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs at 12 p.m. before facing in-state foe Chattanooga at 4 p.m. to wrap up the doubleheader.

The Bulldogs (7-0) are coming off of winning the 2019 ITA National Indoor championship in February and have a lineup that features six ranked singles players. Georgia has registered four wins over top 25 teams this season.

The Mocs (7-2) have gotten off to a strong start to the season, and are amidst their longest win streak since 2016 (seven matches).

Tennessee enters SEC play on a six-match win streak and is coming off a 3-0 weekend against Purdue, UT Martin and ETSU – all of which were shutout victories.Â

SEC OPENER: Saturday marks Tennessee's 2019 SEC opener. The SEC placed 11 teams in this week's ITA top 50 team rankings, and after Saturday the Lady Vols' next four matches will all be against ranked opponents: No. 24 Texas A&M (March 8), No. 12 LSU (March 10), at No. 10 South Carolina (March 15), at No. 43 Florida (March 17).

DOUBLES DOMINATION: Tennessee's doubles accomplishments have not been limited to just the success of ninth-ranked duo Sadie Hammond and Kaitlin Staines. As a team, Tennessee has won the doubles point in 10 of its 11 matches this season.

At the Lady Vols' No. 2 doubles spot, Tenika McGiffin and Maia Haumuller have won five matches in a row.
