October 17, 2026 | Soccer
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee soccer closes a two-match homestand on Sunday afternoon at Regal Soccer Stadium, welcoming Kentucky for a crucial SEC duel. Kickoff with the Wildcats is set for 2 p.m. ET.
The Lady Vols will don pink uniforms in honor of the team's annual Breast Cancer Awareness match.
The match will air live on SEC Network+ with Zack Nelson (PxP) and Tori Beeler-Watson (analyst) on the call.
Admission is free for all regular-season Tennessee soccer matches. For fans planning to attend, note that Tennessee's clear bag policy is in effect again this season. Regal Soccer Stadium is a cashless venue for both concessions and the VolShop this season.
Tennessee (6-4-3, 1-4-2) was dealt a frustrating 1-0 home defeat to Arkansas on Thursday night. The Lady Vols tallied 17 shots in the match but were unable to find the back of the net for the third consecutive match. On the other side, a 13th minute strike on the counterattack by Arkansas proved to be enough to claim the three points, despite the Razorbacks recording just eight shots in the contest.
The Final Countdown: Just three regular season matches remain for Tennessee in 2026, beginning with Sunday's tilt against Kentucky at Regal Soccer Stadium. The Lady Vols will hit the road for the team's penultimate contest of the regular season at No. 8 Alabama on Friday, Oct. 23, before returning home for the regular season finale against Oklahoma Nov. 1.
Tennessee will be in search of positive results to cement its place in the SEC Tournament and a potential NCAA Tournament berth. The Lady Vols currently sit tied for 12th place in the conference standings, with the top 12 squads earning a trip to the conference tournament.
Unchartered Territory: With a narrow 1-0 loss to Arkansas on Thursday night, Tennessee enters Sunday's contest against Kentucky on a four-match losing streak. The active streak is the longest since 2010, when the Lady Vols also lost four consecutive matches. Tennessee will look to avoid matching the longest losing streak in program history on Sunday, a five-match skid during the 1999 season.
Additionally, with a pair of ties in the two prior matches, the Lady Vols are winless in the team's last six matches. This matches the longest streak of matches without a win in program history, as the 2013 squad also had a six-match winless streak.
Close, But No Cigar: Despite the current losing streak, Tennessee's performances in the past two matches have been encouraging. In the 2-0 defeat at No. 11 South Carolina, the Lady Vols spent much of the match in possession and outshot the Gamecocks 11-5. Thursday night's 1-0 defeat followed a similar script as Tennessee recorded 17 shots, compared to just eight by the Razorbacks, but were unable to find the back of the net.
In the three matches prior to the South Carolina tilt, the Lady Vols recorded zero shots in a half on two occasions and zero shots on target in the 1-0 defeat at Auburn. There has been clear attacking improvement for Tennessee over the past two contests, but the goals are yet to follow.
Breaking the Seal: Tennessee will be searching for its first goal since Sept. 27, an Ines Derrien strike in a 3-1 defeat to No. 3 Vanderbilt, during Sunday's match with Kentucky. The Lady Vols scored 21 goals in the opening eight matches of the season, an average of 2.63 goals per game, but have found the back of the net just once over the last four contests.
In those opening eight matches, Tennessee recorded 127 shots, averaging a goal roughly every six shots. On the other hand, the Lady Vols have taken 24 shots over the previous two matches, failing to break the seal in front of goal with a combined zero goals.
Dependent in Defense: While the offensive output has sputtered in recent weeks, the Tennessee defense remains among the best in the conference with a 0.92 goals-against average. Consistency in personnel has been key for the defensive unit as Cayden Norris, Devin Davis, Milee Zych, and Cora Fry have started all 13 matches this season, while Nyla Blue has started all 11 matches she has been available for.
A Look at the Wildcats: Kentucky has been a strong outfit in the SEC this season, boasting a 7-5-2 overall record and a 3-2-2 clip in conference play. The Wildcat's enter Sunday's match with momentum, claiming a 3-2 victory over No. 25 Texas and a 1-1 draw at No. 21 Auburn in the team's last two outings. With 11 points through seven matches of SEC play, Kentucky sits in the top half of the conference standings, tied for seventh place.
With 37 goals in 14 matches this season, the Wildcats possess an explosive offense. Leading the front line is Kyla Dawn, who ranks No. 3 in the SEC with 10 goals in 2026. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Kentucky is susceptible to conceding goals. The team's 1.36 goals-against average ranks 12th in the conference.
