Vols Place 12th, Lady Vols 19th at Nuttycombe Invitational

MADISON, Wis. — Tennessee cross country delivered a pair of competitive performances Friday at the Nuttycombe Invitational, with the No. 22 Volunteer men placing 12th in a loaded 35-team field and the Lady Vols finishing 19th out of 33 programs at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course.
The Vols totaled 389 points in the championship 8k, finishing ahead of 11 nationally ranked or receiving-votes teams, including No. 2 Iowa State, No. 11 Northern Arizona and No. 13 Washington. Sophomore Nelson Mapi Setek led Tennessee for the second consecutive meet, placing 11th overall in a college-best 22:47.1. Junior Zouhair Redouane followed in 12th at 22:49.7, giving the Big Orange a pair of top-15 finishers against one of the nation's deepest fields.
Sophomore Victor Kipkoech placed 46th in 23:27.5, moving up 31 positions over the final 4,000 meters. Sophomore Ty Steorts also made a late push, climbing 24 spots over the final 4k to finish 112th in 23:58.7. Sophomore Oliver MacDonald rounded out Tennessee's scoring five in 208th place at 25:02.2.
On the women's side, Tennessee totaled 491 points to place 19th in the championship 6k, finishing ahead of No. 30 Boise State and receiving-votes Michigan State. Sophomore Mary Nyaboke Ogwoka paced the Lady Vols with an eighth-place finish in 19:24.4, earning a top-10 result against a strong national field.
Freshman Faith Chepchumba was Tennessee's second finisher, placing 57th in 20:25.5. Senior Summer Schuster and junior Tula Fawbush crossed the line in 132nd and 134th, respectively, finishing in 21:05.4 and 21:06.0 after each surged more than 50 positions over the final 4,000 meters to strengthen the Lady Vols' team result. Freshman Payton Meineke rounded out the scoring five with a college-best time of 21:16.1, placing 161st.
Graduate student Kaitlyn Vanderkolk (187th, 21:40.0) and freshman Dani Graham (216th, 22:46.2) also competed for Tennessee in the championship race.
In the women's "B" 6k, senior Jaci Sievers placed 24th in 21:22.5, followed by junior Haley Loewe in 68th at 22:17.1 and sophomore Scout Storms in 78th at 22:30.5.
